International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (Nov 25)

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (Nov 25)

Why This International Day?

  • Violence against women is a human rights violation

  • Violence against women is a consequence of discrimination against women, in law and also in practice, and of persisting inequalities between men and women

  • Violence against women impacts on, and impedes, progress in many areas, including poverty eradication, combating HIV/AIDS, and peace and security

  • Violence against women and girls is not inevitable. Prevention is possible and essential

  • Violence against women continues to be a global pandemic.

November, Holiday Time, & Being of Service

Hello Beautiful People,

It is the beginning of November and we are getting closer to the Holiday time.
I wanted to remind you that while you are getting things together for yourself and family for Thanksgiving and such, make an extra effort to help others at this time.

This is a great time in the year to be of service, to do some volunteer work, and to do something that helps the whole (especially if you don't make time during the rest of the year).

During the holidays, there are lots of people in our country that could use our assistance.
Give in whatever ways you can and give with an open heart.
You can make a big difference.

1. give money to a great organization
2. give time or volunteer
3. give toys to children drives
4. clean out your closets and donate clothes and other gooods
5. donate food or canned goods to food drives
6. give your warm, mildly used coats to a coat drive

Learn other ways to be of service, visit
"Be The Change You Want to See In The World" -

I slept and dreamt that life was a joy.
I awoke and saw that life was service.
I acted and behold, service was joy.

Anthropocene Standardly Strange Time (AS2T)

We're all living on Anthropocene Standardly Strange Time (AS2T). But our calendars don't get that.

We (smudge/FOP) want to create a contemporary calendar.  A calendar that tells meaningful stories about the time changes happening all around us.  A deep time calendar that provides relief and wonder for everyday life in the Anthropocene.

So we launched a Kickstarter campaign and we're calling our project:  Living Deep Time Year 000001.

Our campaign will run until December 11, 002015.

If our campaign for Living Deep Time Year 000001 succeeds, we will spend the 362.2425 days of 002016 researching and inventing ways to live time on our planet differently—ways that are up to the radical newness of what time means in the Anthropocene.

And then, we'll use what we experience and learn to make a new calendar called Deep Time Calendar Year 000001.  We'll share it with YOU (and the rest of the world) on Kickstarter in late 002016.

We have some great rewards for our backers, including original works of art, interactive mail art field dispatches from year-long our process, and complimentary copies of calendar that results from our project.

Here is our tweet for the project:
smudge will live #DEEPTIME for a year and invent a new calendar for the #Anthropocene Check out #Kickstarter
Our deepest thanks in advance for sharing the tweet and announcement of our project as you're able! And we hope that you will take a moment of Anthropocene Standardly Strange Time to check out our campaign!

Remembering A Great Teacher and Mentor, Stan Grier

I want to offer appreciation for an amazing person who came into my life when I was just beginning on my spiritual path in my earlier years, Stan Grier. Stan has affected many people while on the planet in this lifetime.

I met him while volunteering at New York Open Center. Many worked with him at Lineage Project. He brought his practice with him everyday. He was an outstanding man of color who projected dignity and self-care. He introduced me to so many great spiritual tools that still serve me today.

He was kind, considerate, talented and passionate.

Thank you, Stan, for all the ways that you enriched my life.

May your spirit be blessed and at peace.

Love and light!

~Samhain Blessings~

written by

Sanctuary of the Open Heart

This turn of the wheel is a time of celebration and honoring, of preparing and listening. All Hallows Eve welcomes in the gateway to the dark time of the year. We celebrate Summer's End, the harvest, the life we are living and the roads we travel. We dance the spiral of death and rebirth by honoring our ancestors both of blood and spirit, ever seeing ourselves in the great web of unending LIFE...

Listening for allied voices that speak from the universal womb of silence.

"Through the misty veils of Samhain comes the ancient wisdom of Hecate..."

Hecate, Moon Goddess, Queen of the see what others do not see. You know what the rest of us do not consciously know. Familiar with the process of death and dying as well as that of new birth and new life, goddess Hecate, you are wise in all of earth's mysteries.

Lover of solitude, wanderer of the Underworld, crone of the crossroads, we seek your luminous will-o-wisp light. With torch and shimmering cloak, guide us into the shadows and ease our fears as we make transitions and prepare for new beginnings, especially ones that were not planned.

Life, death, light, dark, joy, sorrow...bring us closer to your breast, Hecate, Wise Woman. We stand at Samhain's crossroads, a potent season of remembrance. Remembrance of our lineages, our blood-line and spirit ancestors. Remembrance of our spiritual selves and our capacity for transformation...

Samhain opens the spiral pathway. As the veils thin, we dance cheek-to-cheek, intimately and infinitely, with the cycle of death and re-birth.

The breath is a spiral. Feel into the regenerative spiraling energy as it moves in and out on each breath. Exhale...drop anchor...expand and REMEMBER...
